Essilor and GMA Kapuso Foundation provide 500 prescription glasses

In its commitment to provide better visual health for all, Essilor, the world leader for ophthalmic optics, reached out to Filipinos in need of vision correction at the annual Kapuso 20-20 Eye Project.

Together with GMA Kapuso Foundation, Essilor provided 500 pairs of prescription glasses to underprivileged Filipinos at the GMA Kapuso Foundation booth. Apart from eye glasses, Essilor also gave free vision screening and eye check up.

“Many Filipinos suffer from poor vision and it is our company’s commitment to help address this problem globally,” said Dr. Emelita Roleda, General Manager of Essilor Philippines. “That’s why we are very pleased to be part of outreach programs like this where we can help Filipinos see better, raise awareness on the importance of having healthy vision and emphasize the urgency of having your vision corrected.”

The event, which was held at the GMA Kapuso headquarters, was done in celebration of Sight Saving month. The outreach project was also supported by volunteer doctors from integrated phil assoc of optometrists (IPAO).

This project is a yearly partnership with GMA Kapuso Foundation. Last year, Essilor Vision Foundation, GMA Kapuso Foundation and Integrated Philippines Association of Optometrists (IPAO) provided free refraction and eyeglasses to 692 individuals (312 in Manila, 209 in Cebu, 181 in Davao) through the Kapuso 20/20 project.

This outreach is part of the Essilor Group’s global strategy to address a global issue – the prevalence of uncorrected poor vision around the world and the need for governments and corporations to play a role in providing access to vision correction, particularly in emerging markets.

“This is just one of the many projects lined up for this year that is geared towards better vision across the country,” Dr. Roleda added.

SONY PICTURES TELEVISION NETWORKS, ASIA UNVEILS NEW LOOK

Sony Pictures Television (SPT) Networks, Asia is launching a refreshed visual identity for AXN with an impactful original new look that aligns with the channel’s current programming focus. The new branding, including a new logo, graphic elements and marketing campaign, will roll out across AXN’s on-air and online platforms just prior to the premiere of The Voice Season 9 tonight.

“While AXN continues to be the pay TV destination for action, we are also tapping into an audience seeking content filled with intrigue, passion and heroes,” said Hui Keng Ang, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Sony Pictures Television Networks, Asia. “Our new look aligns with that programming sensibility and speaks to today’s viewers, who are connecting with our brand across linear and digital channels, as well as social media.”

AXN’s dynamic new logo features a custom-built avante garde typeface, accentuated by a three-dimensional pyramid, which is a classic shape associated with mystery and the convergence of energy, bathed in striking shades of red.

“Red evokes energy, action, passion and danger. We are harnessing the power of that color in a new campaign that encourages viewers to discover and embrace the sense of fearlessness that permeates AXN’s series,” explains Maurizio Vitale, senior vice president of marketing, Networks for SPT, who oversaw the network’s brand refresh globally.

The network’s new “Redefining Action” campaign, which will roll out simultaneously with the refreshed brand identity, underscores the channel’s focus on programming defined not by a particular genre but by an overall attitude -- intense, intriguing, smart and unexpected.

Complementing the bold new look, AXN has a stellar line up of new and returning series to get viewers excited for the Fall TV season. The focus on intense, intriguing, smart and unexpected stories is reflected in the premiere on September 28 of highly anticipated drama Quantico, starring Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra; a show not short of twists where one of the group of FBI trainees at Quantico is suspected to have plotted a massive terrorist attack. The Blacklist Season 3 is all about redefining action with Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) finding herself on the FBI’s most wanted list and on the run with Raymond Reddington (James Spader). On September 22, reality TV sensation The Voice Season 9 kicks off with mega music stars Pharrell Williams, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton and Adam Levine coaching a new crop of singing wannabes; the sincerity, chemistry and rivalry make it a not-to-be missed competition.

Carly Rae Jepsen “emotional” at Manila concert

Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen wore her heart on her sleeve as she entertained a packed Smart Araneta Coliseum crowd for the recent Carly Rae Jepsen: Live in Manila concert.

Performing songs from her most recent album called E·MO·TION, the 29 year-old singer and songwriter soulfully tackled a world of feelings – from regret, jealousy, and heartache, to nostalgia, hope and romantic bliss.

While admittedly obsessed with love and relationships, Carly Rae nonetheless evokes a carefree mood with her songs that are influenced by the early ’80s pop music. In her pre-concert interviews, she revealed being a huge fan of Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, and Prince, all of whom inspired her to make her own music.

Carly Rae also expressed how she wants her album to affect people: “I really just want everyone to let them be their songs, their emotions. The best feeling to me is that we can all share the same stories, even if we don’t know each other.”

At the concert, that is just what happened. Carly Rae’s fans happily sang and danced along with her singles “Run Away with Me,” “All That,” “Gimmie Love,” and “Your Type.”

Of course, the night would not be complete without a performance of her most popular hits, “I Really Like You,” and the Grammy Award-nominated, multi-platinum-selling, and global hit single “Call Me Maybe.”

Besides Carly Rae’s intense but catchy songs, the fans were treated to the Smart Araneta Coliseum’s wonderful amenities: first-class food options, a new entrance, wider concourses, and a new parking facility for 2,000 vehicles. The Big Dome also offered a one-of-a-kind viewing experience with improved sightlines and state-of-the-art HD sound and video systems.
